Profile

Dr. Buddhika is a board-certified consultant oncological surgeon currently based at the Teaching Hospital, Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. His passion for surgery, particularly surgical oncology, was evident from his undergraduate years at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo.

In 2014, he entered the general surgical training programme in Sri Lanka. His clinical rotations were primarily in the high-volume teaching hospitals of Colombo and Kandy, where he gained comprehensive exposure across all major branches of surgery. The demanding clinical environment helped him build a strong foundation in surgical practice and patient care.

In October 2017, Dr. Buddhika obtained his MD in Surgery from the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo, placing third in the national merit list. He then chose to specialize in surgical oncology, attracted by the opportunity to work across multiple anatomical regions and address the complexities involved in the surgical management of cancer.

He served as a senior registrar in surgical oncology at the National Cancer Institute, Maharagama, for two years. Seeking further specialization and international exposure, he pursued overseas training in the United Kingdom. In the first year, he worked as a senior clinical fellow in colorectal, pelvic, and peritoneal surgery at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, a globally renowned cancer center. In his second year, he continued his fellowship at the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, focusing on colorectal and general surgery.

Dr. Buddhika brings a wealth of experience in managing complex oncological cases and remains committed to advancing surgical oncology both in Sri Lanka and internationally.
